Description of a Typical Session

A typical session is 60 minutes long.  Prior to the session a discussion will usually take place. I will describe the session to the client, give the client an opportunity to discuss any particular problems or issues they are experiencing and ask them what they are hoping to achieve from their session.  For the actual session, the client will rest comfortably on a massage table, fully clothed.  Unlike massage therapy, no articles of clothing are removed.  Loose, comfortable clothing is suggested.  A session can either be hands-on, where I will apply light touch during the session, or hands-off where I will hold my hands slightly above your body.

During the healing session try to relax as much as possible and mentally open your mind to receiving the healing energy.  Even if you are skeptical or do not have faith in it, I ask that you please keep an open or unbiased mind.  By doing so, it can assist the flow of healing energy and will enhance your experience!

The session will begin with me moving through specific standard Reiki hand positions generally starting at the top of your head and working my way down the front of your body, then working my way up your back.

The experience of Reiki is subjective, changeable, and sometimes very subtle.  People often feel my hands heat up as well as other subtle pulsations where my hands are placed on their body. People often feel me gently swaying or rocking as the energy is flowing through me to them.  They may feel cascading waves of pulsations throughout their body as well.

People often comment how comforting and relaxing they find the experience of Reiki to be.  In an interesting study, recipients frequently feel that they were hovering in a threshold state of consciousness, simultaneously aware of their surroundings and deeply indrawn.  Some people fall into a deep, sleeplike meditative state.  Sometimes the experience of Reiki is dramatic, while for other people, the first session in particular may be uneventful, although they feel somehow better afterward.  The most common experience is an almost immediate release of stress and a feeling of deep relaxation.

Reiki is cumulative and even people who don’t notice much the first time usually have progressively deeper experiences if they continue.  Besides the immediate experience of the Reiki, you may notice other changes that continue to unfold as the day goes on.
